Having tried many of the Cuban restaurants in LA, I found this one to be the best one yet! We went there during their opening weekend and had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was warm and charming, dark wood tables, beautifully tiled floors, vivid paintings and photographs of old Havana on the walls, as well as live entertainment featuring a piano player and congo drums. But most importantly, the food was excellent! The menu offered many of the traditional dishes you would expect on an Cuban menu, like grilled chicken sauteed in butter and lemon with white rice and black beans, as well as house specialties, like grilled halibut in rum and mint mojito sauce (which I ordered and was out of this world). For dessert, my wife had the caramel flan which she savored with every bite. With so many delicious dishes on the menu, we will surly be back.

Even if you didn’t take note of the Mojito billboards strewn throughout the city, you still probably know that the drink’s popularity has grown. Note your favorite party girl’s reaction next time you offer her one. Where can you find our Los Angeles’s best mojito though? Until tonight I wouldn’t have had an answer for you.

In one corner of the dining room, a pianist's hands fly over the keyboard, pounding out distinctly Cuban rhythms and warming the somewhat stark space with the sounds of Old Havana. Our waiter could have stepped out of the vintage black-and-white photos mounted on the walls that depict Papa Hemingway and a host of Hollywood grandees living the good life in the '40s at the original La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana.

Think LA only needs one chain Cuban restaurant? Think again. This franchise's regional cuisine is a step up from the usual Caribbean ménage à trois (rice, beans and plantains). La Bodeguita de Pico may be a throwback to Old Havana, but the restaurant is far from stale — the crowd, staff, food and live entertainment are like a pair of vintage Adidas: charmingly old school. The dimly lit, cavernous interior make the space warm and inviting, and unlike many a restaurant in this town, the diners come here to eat and be entertained rather than to be seen.
